Thanksgiving Feast

The Kindergarten classes at Jonny's school held a Thanksgiving feast on the last day before Thanksgiving vacation.  One class wore Pilgrim hats, another class wore Indian feathers, and Jonny's class members were the turkeys!  They sat all together at a long table in the hallway and could choose turkey lunch meat, cheese slices, apple slices, mini carrots, or rolls with cookies for dessert.  Jonny's plate held a roll and two cookies!!!  They also treated us with a few songs.

Cleaning Up the Garden

It seemed that whenever I worked in the yard, Jonny wanted to use the clippers and cut something down!  I ran out of stuff for him to trim..... until I remembered the corn!  I let Jonny cut down a few corn stalks every day and after a while, he had the whole corn patch cut down!  He was pretty proud of himself!

Allergies!

Jonny has had trouble with a stuffed up nose and when it didn't go away when summer was over, we suspected that his allergies were not just seasonal.  I took him into the allergy doctor in October and he had to have one of those awful "poke" tests.  They tested him for about 17 different allergies.  He showed that he is mildly allergic to box elder trees, dust, a couple of molds and CATS!  He was SOOO sad and CRIED when they said he was allergic to cats!  He has his favorite cat, Honeysuckle, that he holds and cuddles all of the time so he was devastated!  The doctor gave him a pill and a nasal spray that has been working well.  The doctor didn't tell us to get rid of our cats and didn't even say that Jonny couldn't hold the cats.  He just recommended that we keep them as outside cats, which we do (unless Jonny smuggles them in).   It took about a week of avoiding his cats until he broke down and started cuddling them again!

Halloween 2014

Jonny really wanted to be a firefighter for Halloween so luckily, I was able to find a helmet at a thrift store and we made the jacket and pants by using duct tape.

Jonny went trick-or treating at his grandma's workplace and got a bucket of candy and then that evening, we went trick-or-treating around our neighborhood with Jonny's cousins.

By the time we were done, we had plenty of candy!!!!

A Weekend in Buhl

Earlier this month, we took a weekend trip to Buhl.  Jonny really wanted to stay in a motel with a pool, but Buhl didn't have any motels with pools.  Luckily, the next town over had a community pool so we spent the afternoon swimming.
Jonny really wanted to go down the water slide, but he climbed to the top and then climbed down again.  Finally on the third try, he made it with his daddy waiting at the end to catch him.  And then he went down and went down and went down!

While we were in Buhl, we also hiked up to the balanced rock in Balanced Rock State Park.

A Trip to the Zoo

Last week, we attended a foster family appreciation evening at the zoo.  They fed us dinner and then let us into the zoo for free.  Jonny enjoyed looking at all of the animals, but his favorite part BY FAR was looking at all of the mechanical dinosaurs that were set up around the zoo.  He didn't ask to go back to see any particular animal twice, but there were several dinosaurs that he wanted to see again!

Kindergarten!

Jonny was super excited about starting school today!  He is attending afternoon kindergarten.  I took him to school and then he rode home on the bus.  The bus stop is a few houses down from ours so Mac and I walked down to meet Jonny and Jonny was happy to show off his bus tag.  (I was happy to see that Jonny's bus driver is one of our ward members!)  Jonny told us that kindergarten was fun!

Jonny loves his John Deere backpack.

Look Who's Five!

Jonny turned five on April 3.  We invited the family over for dinner, presents and cake.  It was kind-of warm enough to eat outside, so we all sat outside for dinner but we moved back into the house for opening presents and cake & ice cream.  Grandma Vicki is the expert birthday cake-maker and Jonny requested his cake far in advance:  he wanted an orange "lemon" cake.  That meant that he wanted the orange car from the Disney movie Cars 2--you know, the "lemons" are the cars that no one likes!  Well, Grandma Vicki wasn't too sure about that so we created a race track and decorated it with a bunch of toy cars and Jonny was happy.  Jonny is now ready to start kindergarten.  He was pretty sure that he was going to be able to go to school the day after he turned five.  He was a little disappointed to learn that he still has a little bit of time to wait!

Foster Brothers

We were approved to do foster care in October and received these boys into our care a couple of months ago.  Trevor is four years old (he'll turn five in August) and Chauncy is 4 months old.  Jonny and Trevor play outside all day long and have all kinds of fun!  Chauncy has started laughing and smiling and using his hands and Jonny likes to have Chauncy hold his finger.  These little boys are keeping both Jonny and me busy, but we're having fun!
