Playing with Cars

Jonny has started to get interested in playing with toys more and more lately. He's never played in his room much until now, and I'll find him in his room a few times a day. It's fun to find him with his toy cars all lined up in a row.

A Snow Day

We finally had enough snow last week that it warranted getting out Jonny's snow pants for the first time. It was one of those experiences that reminded me of just how much he has grown over the past few months. The pants still fit but just barely. Jonny didn't like how tight the straps were over his shoulders so we zipped him up but left the straps down.

Jonny had a great time in the snow. I found him belly-down, playing in the snow several times, but his favorite thing by far is still eating the snow.

There was still enough snow left the next day to build a snowman. Carrots are one of Jonny's favorite snacks and he just couldn't understand why you would put a perfectly yummy carrot in some snow and leave it there. Consequently, Jonny had his own carrot to munch on and then the snowman was allowed to have one!

King of the Mountain

We have a couple of dirt piles in our backyard that Jonny calls "mountains". Many days you will see him just standing at the top of a mountain. He likes to climb them but lately has started taking his toys up on them, too. He's tried his dump truck, ambulance, bike, wagon and stroller. (P.S. The bike did not work so well. There was a little bit of screaming involved in the attempt!)

Little Butter Eater

Have I ever mentioned before how much Jonny loves to eat butter? He will gladly eat from the butter dish any chance he gets! That means that the butter gets taken off the table as soon as we are done with dinner and if the butter dish is sitting on the counter, it has to be pushed way back against the wall. These preventative measures didn't work last night though. Jonny disappeared into the kitchen and when he didn't come right back, I went to check. I found him standing on a chair with both fists full of butter! He hurried and shoved one fist of butter into his mouth before I could stop him! Uh...yum!

Happy Valentine's Day

Jonny helped me make sugar cookies for Valentine's Day. He helped me cut out two cookies and then he had more fun eating flour and cookie dough.

I thought Jonathan might like to eat frosting, but he was more enthralled with the sprinkles. He helped me put some sprinkles on some cookies and then ate a bunch of sprinkles. And we only ended up with one jar of sprinkles dumped completely out!

Jonny and I picked up a heart-shaped pizza from Papa Murphy's for dinner and Chris brought home flowers and chocolate-dipped strawberries.

Those strawberries were right up Jonny's alley. He saw them and got so excited. Jonny is such a berry-eater! He's been keeping his eye on our strawberry patch and I've had to show him several times this winter that there are no strawberries! After Chris and I felt that Jonathan had eaten enough pizza, we let him dig into the strawberries. There were four strawberries in the box and Jonathan ate all four! (minus a couple of bites that I got in)

Yum!

Sewing with Jonny

Jonny is fascinated by my sewing machine every time I get it out. He has had to investigate all of the buttons and knobs and switches. And when I wind a new bobbin, he comes running so he can watch the bobbin filling up with thread. His latest discovery is what the foot does when he pushes it down. The last time I had my machine out, Jonny climbed under the table and "helped" me push the foot down. He thought it was great to make noise and he discovered that the more he pushed down, the more noise he made! Since I was sewing straight seams, I let him continue to "help" me. (I know, crazy me!) I would tell Jonny, "Okay, go" and he would press down or I would say, "Stop, stop, STOP!" It was quite an adventure!

Jonny's Super Powers

video

Jonny still takes any opportunity to climb up on the table that he can, even though we always make him get off. There just always seems to be too much fun stuff up there! On this night, we were playing board games. When Jonny got tired of his game, he climbed on the table and showed us his "super powers". I don't know where he got it from except maybe Super Grover on Sesame Street!
