Going to School

My last day of school was Friday, May 28. School only lasts three hours on that last day, most of which is spent on a "field day" (think hula hoops, wet sponge toss, air-filled obstacle course, etc). My students had been asking when Jonathan was going to come for another visit so my principal gave me permission to bring Jonathan on Field Day. I kept Jonathan mostly confined to his stroller, but he loved being there! He watched the kids play and laughed and babbled to the girls who hung around his stroller playing with him.

When I dismissed the class, several students had to give both Jonathan and me a hug on their way out. A couple of students also wanted to be in a picture with Jonathan. After all of the students left, Jonathan got to go to my faculty lunch party and eat pizza to celebrate the end of the school year. Jonathan's favorite part of lunch was drinking ice water through a straw and then sticking his hand in the cup to play with/eat the ice while sitting on my friend Kate's lap!

A New Wagon

Over the last year, we had been given some gift cards to use for Jonathan. I'd been holding on to them because I didn't know how I wanted to spend them. We recently decided that we'd like to buy a little red wagon for Jonathan so we put all the gift cards towards a wagon. Jonathan was taking a nap when Chris put it together so we left it in the living room for when he woke up. He immediately saw it and had to check it out, including inspecting the wheels. We took it outside to give Jonathan a ride. When we thought he was tired of riding, we took him out. We discovered he wasn't tired of it after all because he tried climbing back inside. We then spent the next hour or so outside pulling Jonathan around the yard. Jonathan loved it!

Favorite Place to Play

One of Jonathan's favorite places to play is in the kitchen. We showed him one of the cabinets that has Tupperware and Rubbermaid containers. That was fun until he found that he could open the kitchen drawers! His favorite thing to do now is pull open a drawer and pull out all kinds of interesting things. Sometimes he will sit and just keep pulling things out but other times he scatters the things from one end of the house to the other!

More Walking

Jonathan is walking all over now. He walks best on the carpet, but he's getting better on the linoleum and on grass. He can even carry things now as he is walking, although sometimes it is his mouth doing the carrying--not his hands! This video shows another of his little tricks--clapping! He has been clapping for a a couple of weeks when we play "Patty Cake" but he surprised me in this video because he started clapping when I told him, "Good job!"
