Walking

Jonathan has really taken off walking this week. His balance is getting better and he's gone way beyond his normal 4 or 5 steps. He is even starting to change direction and tries to carry things as he walks. His biggest problem is that he often wants to run instead of walk!

Playing Outside

The weather has been so nice the past week, we've taken Jonathan outside to play several times. He LOVES it! He laughs when he gets out the door and squeals when he sees my uncle's dog next door. He doesn't think too much about the grass though. He will walk on it with bare feet, but he doesn't like to crawl on it. (And no, he's not really walking yet. He will take about four or five steps and then usually falls.)

1 Year Doctor Visit

We took Jonathan in for his one year doctor visit on Tuesday. He got two more immunization shots, poor boy. He officially weighs 20 pounds and 1 ounce and is 28 1/4 inches tall. That puts him in the 10th percentile, so he's still a little guy! But he's finally wearing nine-month size clothes now!

Climbing

It looks like Jonathan is going to be a climber. He likes to pull himself up all kinds of things. The place that we have found him climbing on the most is the oven. He pulls the drawer open and uses the handle on the door to pull as he climbs up on top of the drawer. Who knows where we'll find him next!

First Haircut

Jonathan got his first haircut yesterday. He has needed a haircut for a long time, but I couldn't bring myself to do it until after his birthday because I knew it would make him look older.
We put him in the high chair and I used the clippers. It worked pretty well except that he turned his head every time I got close with the clippers. My mom ended up holding his head while I buzzed him. Then I had to use scissors around his ears and on the back of his neck.

It turned out pretty well, as far as first haircuts go. At least Jonathan didn't cry (even though I nearly did)!

First Birthday

Jonathan is now officially one year old! We celebrated his birthday on Saturday with a barbecue and cake. Grandma Vicki made these Elmo cakes for Jonathan.
The little cake was just for Jonathan. He was a dainty eater and didn't really tear into his cake, even though we gave him every chance and even encouraged him! He did put his mouth on the cake and then ate the frosting from the eyes and nose.

After dinner, Jonathan opened his birthday presents. He got clothes, toys, a stuffed animal and a book. He loves them all. (And we loved them because they helped keep him busy on the long trip home!)
When we got home, Jonathan got to open his last gift that was from Mom and Dad. It's a truck that he can ride on or push around. (And of course, the box was Jonathan's favorite part of the gift.) I can't believe that my baby boy is a year old already!
